Introverts and Presentations

By November 27, 2011

Follow me on:

Not too long ago I was part of a panel of authors that presented to a group of people about writing and getting published. After the presentation, which consisted mostly of Q&A, I was exhausted. Talked through. The other authors on the panel, however, were energized. They stayed long after the event chatting with each other. The more they talked, the more energized they became.

Since I rode with one of them, I had to wait for them to finish talking. I needed to get back to work, but I was also really just exhausted from all the talking. I enjoyed the day with my fellow authors, but I needed some alone time to process everything. I think this is how it is with introverts sometimes. Although the day was one where I was able to really celebrate a great day with my writer friends, I felt like I needed some down time later in order to really get my energy back.

This is how it is at times with introverts. Hard to describe to people who don't understand it. If you had just happened upon me after the presentation, you might have thought I looked tired, or even aloof. When really, I just needed some time to reboot.

More on introverts.
