I saw this wonderful post by Michael Hyatt recently, where he talked about giving an eulogy of sorts to people he appreciated in the office. The post is geared toward the working world, which is important, but naturally I couldn't help relating it to our social lives as well. Specifically, our friends. Why not celebrate a special friend right now, just because they have been good to you? You don't need a special occasion because you can create a special occasion.
If you've got a really great friend in your life, invite them to a party and then honor them! It's as simple as that. Invite other people who know this friend and then write up a special note to read at the party. Honor your friend with music they like, foods they enjoy, and spend a few moments publicly letting people know that this person is cherished in your life. How cool would that be if someone did that for you?
A good time to do this would be after they helped you or listened to you. I know there have been times in my life where I've put down the phone with a friend and felt so grateful for their support, but usually in times like this you just go on. You might thank the person but you don't make a grand gesture out of it. But there are times when a grand gesture just might be the way to go. Keep this idea in the back of your mind, and the next time there is an opportunity where you're wondering how to give back to a friend, think of this. Put your own spin on it and make it personal for your friend.
If you've ever done a party like this, I want to hear from you! Leave a comment here and tell us what you did. Let's inspire each other with what we can do.
