Adopt a Shelter Dog This Month

Did you know that October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month? My dog has been a wonderful friend to me, but not just that, she's been a great icebreaker with others as well. I've bonded with others who have dogs (because talking about the cute or crazy things your dog does is so easy with a new friend who can understand!) and when I'm out with her I've been encouraged to talk to more people. Usually, I can be a bit reserved to talking to others (it's that introvert thing and all) and as a result I'm not always good with walking up to folks and making conversation. But my dog helps me with that, both when people come up to me to ask about her and also when I see another dog owner.

I found some interesting information on how to train a shelter dog from Amy Bender, About's Guide to Dogs. Also read through her guide to dog adoption if you get a chance. Some good info there.

A lot of times people ask me for ideas on things they can do and take their dog along, and I've got them here. Feel free to add your ideas as well!
