Friend Poaching?

By November 25, 2012

Follow me on:

Did a friend "poach" a friend from you? Webalann in our Friendship Forum says:

"I have two friends, Alex and Ben. Alex is a pretty good friend I've known 8 years, although much of that time I spent overseas. Ben is someone I met while overseas 2 years ago and had a great time with. He coincidentally moved back home to Toronto around the same time as me 18 months ago.

When I arrived home, Ben was looking for a job in advertising. As Alex had been working for many years in the same field, I organized for us to hang out sporadically thinking it was a logical connection to make and all three of us could be friends. Ben and Alex got on pretty well whenever we hung out, maybe once every couple of months."

Webalann goes on to explain how Alex started asking Ben to do more things, and eventually not invite Webalann along.

It seems like Alex is a friend stealer, or someone who no longer wants to be friends with Webalann but doesn't think twice about stealing a friend, in this case Ben.

What would you recommend to Webalann?
