The Kindness of Strangers: How it Changes Your Entire Perspective

By January 29, 2013

Follow me on:

The other day I was running around doing a ton of different errands. You know these days, right? You're so busy and you go everywhere and then suddenly it's the late afternoon and you can't even remember everything you accomplished.

So after coming home, I saw that my own cell phone number was listed on our caller ID. That was weird. I looked and sure enough, I didn't have the phone. I pressed play on my answering machine and here a nice man had found my cell phone and left it with customer service at one of the places I was out and about at that day.

I can't tell you how wonderful it was to know that there was a kind soul who took the time to do that. It changed my entire perspective. It could have been a really rotten day after that. I would have been in a very bad mood having to backtrack and go back to the places I had visited that day, all in a futile effort to find my phone.

Instead, because of the kindness of a total stranger, I was able to go back to the one place I knew where my phone was, relay the message that someone had left it there, and picked it up. Easy! I was in such a good mood that I think I smiled at every stranger I saw that day.

The point is, small things like this can make a huge difference in someone's life. You will never know how much your seemingly small act of kindness can transform someone's day, and change their mood for the better.
