Non-Apology

By , About.com Guide

Definition: A apology that lacks responsibility on the part of the person apologizing. A non-apology lacks three of the four required elements of an apology (a request to talk, an acknowledgement of what happened, and sincerity in admitting what you did wrong), and instead uses the words "I'm sorry" or "I apologize" as a way to get out of a discussion or argument.

More about apologizing:

Examples:
"I'm sorry you feel that way."

"I'm sorry if I hurt you."

"I'm sorry, but…"

"I was just trying to help."
