Welcome to the Friendship Quote of the Day!
Forgiveness is a strange thing. It can sometimes be easier to forgive our enemies than our friends. It can be hardest of all to forgive people we love. Like all of life's important coping skills, the ability to forgive and the capacity to let go of resentments most likely take root very early in our lives.
Today's Inspiring Thought: Forgive a Friend
I agree with this quote wholeheartedly that the ability to forgive is something we learn (or fail to learn) early on in our lives. That's why some of us continue to struggle with apologies and forgiveness throughout our lives. When we don't know how to get along, we have to learn, and the only way some of us do that is by making mistakes and hurting others.
Never assume that forgiveness comes naturally. As Fred Rogers mentions here, it can be very difficult to forgive a friend. It's sometimes easier to forgive someone we don't care about because their bad behavior might not hurt as badly as a friend's betrayal does.
Is there some measure of anger and hurt you've been holding on to? Make up your mind to forgive. It will set you free and allow you to trust and care for your friend, or anyone else you choose to bring into your life.
