Things to Do With Your Dog

Hanging Out With a Friend and Their Dog

By , About.com Guide

Dogs are pack animals, so it makes sense that dog owners like hanging out together. Dogs are not only a good way for you to meet other people, they also provide plenty of activities for you and your friends to do. You will automatically have things to talk about with another dog owner, so spending time with your pooch will make an outing that much more enjoyable.

Camping

Why not bring your dogs along on the next camping trip? It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors without worrying about leaving your dog behind. Besides that, you'll be able to hang out with a friend while your dog gets plenty of fresh air.

Doggie Vacation

Lots of hotels today allow you to bring dogs, so you and a friend could take a weekend getaway somewhere and not having to worry about boarding your pet. Do a search for "pet friendly hotels" or "hotels that allow dogs" in your area to view your options. Even if a place does accept dogs, be sure to read their rules regarding leaving your pet alone, barking, and clean up.

Outdoor Café

When the weather is nice, is there anything better than a leisurely stroll followed by some lunch at an outdoor cafe? Many places offer outdoor seating, but not everyone allows dogs, so call ahead to check. If you and your friend do bring your dogs, make sure they are well-behaved so they don't irritate the other patrons.

Visit a Nursing Home

Do a good deed with a friend and bring your dogs to an area nursing home. Many of these homes welcome a quick visit with the animals because it brightens up the resident's day. As always, call ahead first to make sure it's okay. If it is, you'll be getting in some valuable volunteering time as well as spending time with your pet. This doubles the opportunity for you to bond with your friend.

Take a Grooming Class Together

More and more people are learning to groom their dogs themselves to save on costs. You and a friend can attend a class together, which not only gives you something to do but also helps you each remember the skills involved for when you get home. Check out the local pet stores, vet, or doggie day care in your area to find a class.
