How to Be Happy With Quotes About Friendship and Life

By

Having a happy and joyful outlook can make a big difference in your friendships. The more positive you are, the more you'll attract good people in your life. Happiness is an attitude that can transform your life for the better. To help inspire you, here are some quotes on happiness, along with a note about how to apply it to your friendships.

"The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up."

This quote reminds me of those days when I'm in a lousy mood and nothing will shake it. I think that is often the best time to volunteer for people who really need your help. After all, when you're feeling sorry for yourself, you need to get some perspective, and seeing some of the problems people face in this world is one way to do that. Volunteering also gives you a sense of accomplishment and connects you with others. If you're feeling lousy, there's no better way to get a lift than by your friends. So if you're lacking in friends right now, try volunteering to meet some more people.

"Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls."

If anyone knew how to "catch a soul," it was Mother Teresa. Her humanitarian work is legendary. She teaches us a good happiness lesson here as well, because if you really want to connect with someone on more than just a superficial level, you have open your heart. You can't be guarded and expect to make real friendships. It just doesn't work, or, it takes a very long time before you finally realize that the person in your life is the real deal. But why waste years when you can get a genuinely great friend now?

"What a wonderful life I've had! I only wish I'd realized it sooner."

This is my favorite quote about happiness and life, because so many of us think that "if" we only had...(fill in the blank), then we would be happy. We base our happiness on goals we haven't achieved yet, instead of what we already have in our life. Happiness is a choice and this quote is a good reminder to stop and reflect on the blessings in our life. That includes our friendships. Take a moment today and do something nice for a friend simply because they are a part of your life.

"Happiness makes up in height for what it lacks in length."

Have you ever heard the phrase that the bad times don't last forever? Well, that's true, but the good times don't always last either. Life is full of ups and downs, and it's up to us to appreciate the times when we're on an upward swing. The high moments of our life can more than make up for the darker times, and we have to believe that there is a rhythm and purpose to our lives. When things are in a bad place, reach out to people. Your friends will help you through.

"Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."

What a poetic way to describe the pursuit of happiness. To me this quote reminds us to make up our minds to be happy so happiness can find us. The change happens with us first, and then the reality follows.

"Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go."

Let's face it, not all of the people in our life are easy to get along with. With some, it might be a constant struggle to find harmony, while with others it's just natural. This quote is a humorous reminder to pay attention to good friends we have who really make life fun.

"For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness."

This quote is all about forgiveness. Some people feel that forgiving a friend means that they are letting them off the hook for what they did, but that isn't the case. Forgiveness means that whatever your friend did does not have the power to anger or hurt you anymore. Forgiveness is for you, not your friend.

However, in order to move forward after an argument, your friend needs to apologize and take responsibility. If they don't, and your friendship comes to an end, you can still forgive. You can forgive to heal yourself.

"Happiness is a warm puppy."

Sometimes it's the simplest of moments that can mean pure happiness. Any dog owner will tell you that their pet adds to their life by teaching them the basics of what it takes to make a human relationship flourish.

"Happiness depends upon ourselves."

Remember this one above all.
