Since today is National Relaxation Day, I've been thinking a lot about work. (That should tell you how my mind works. Am I thinking about relaxing on National Relaxation Day? No. I'm thinking about work.)
But there's a good reason I'm thinking about work, and that's because I used to work too much. I used to work at a job that had long hours and many demands. If I said I had plans with friends, they didn't care.
Now, I know sometimes you need to work and do what you have to do, but if your job has created a world that doesn't allow for a personal life, it's time to re-examine your priorities. When I finally left the workaholic job I was in, my entire personal life changed. I spent more time with my friends, dated more, wrote a book, and then even got married. I'm convinced that if I hadn't made the changes I did, I wouldn't have some of the wonderful friends I do.
You need to devote time to your personal well being. So today, on National Relaxation Day, make it a point to call up a friend. Better yet, maybe you two can relax and have fun together. Reality show marathon anyone?
