You know I love any story that features a message in a bottle. I wrote about one a year ago, where a woman found someone's bottle message sixteen years after he had thrown it in the ocean. Now, there's an even better story.
The latest message in a bottle that was found is supposed to be the oldest in history, and was found 98 years after it was first written. Wow! But the story gets even better.
Apparently the guy that found the message, Andrew Leaper, just got a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records because it was the oldest ever by five years. This particular bottle one of 1,890 and was part of an experiment to determine the current flow of the ocean. The message is so old that one of the rewards it promised, a sixpence, isn't even around anymore!
In case you're wondering, there are still potentially about 1,500 more of these types of bottles which haven't been found yet, so if you've also wanted to find one of these, you do have half a chance.
